I decided to make fun designer diaper burp clothes, because every baby needs something designer to spit up on! I have a few new babies coming up and this baby’s parents didn’t want to find out his/her gender, I love the robin’s egg blue and taupe colors and thought this fabric was neutral enough… So here goes….
Pile of washed cloth diapers, I highly recommend washing them as well as your fabric in HOT water first, that way you won’t have the shrinkage factor on the finished project.
Coordinating fabric
Measure the thick middle part, then give your self an extra 1/4 inch per side seam allowance, in my case I cut a 6 inch strip of fabric.
Fold fabric about a 1/4 inch for a nice neat finish, pin in place.
Leave about an inch over hang on each end of the diaper. Sew strip in place, I used color thread on top and white thread in my bobbin.
Flip the diaper over {note you will have already sewn the strip into place it won’t be pinned as in this photo}
Fold over and pin into place on the back.
Sew into place.
All done!
*Did you notice the birds were upside down? Hahaha hopefully the momma will throw it over her shoulder with the birds right side up.
Update, I have since made another batch and have made a few modifications, I like the way they turned out better… Instead of the little flap folded over on the back side I fold the fabric strip even with the cloth diaper, meaning there is No over hang on the back. I also changed the setting on my machine to a small zig zag {on my machine it’s a 2 setting}. Anyway, I stitched right on the edge and it looks BEAUTIFUL…

I had seen these and just bought a stack of diapers yesterday to make some. I have some vintage look fabric that I think I will use. I also saw another idea using towels on one side and fabric on the other. They were in a shop up town in a bundle of 5 sewn with co-ordinating fabrics for about $35.00. Immediately I said well I could do that. You could also just trim the ends with ribbon or rick rack. Thanks for the tutorial.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing!
You girls continue to inspire me. Maybe someday I can rise above the hot glue gun :0) But those are so pretty, too pretty for burp cloths!
Very nice! I like the fabric. You people who sew amaze me!
Great job, cute-cute-cute
where can I find the diapers to design?
