I’ve been Tagged…

Jackie from  Empty Nest Full of Life, tagged me….

I am supposed to list 6 random things about myself and then tag 6 others to do the same, so here goes:

1.  I read magazines starting at the back, it’s true I read them backwards.

2.  I am a hopeless romantic, I have every letter {from high school} and card my hubby ever gave me!  Including faxes he used to draw these elaborate pictures of scenes from home and fax them to me when he was at work… hmmm that might need to be a future post!

3.  I won’t let my dog go outside, she is box trained  although we don’t use the litter, she ate that… I put puppy pads in it.  I don’t want her to get that dog smell, or get dirty, fleas, etc…. She is strictly indoors!

4.  I STILL to this very day, sleep with 2 security blankets… Can’t sleep without them!

5.  I HATE waiting til the last minute, I am a PLANNER, I am talking put it on the calendar weeks, even months in advance.

6.  My favorite time to drink water is at night when I have just brushed my teeth, makes the water WAY cold!

I am not going to tag 6 others, because most of you have already done this, but feel free to comment or post your own randomness! 😉

I can now say I am addicted to BLOGGING, and it’s a GREAT thing!  I look at things so differently, my family all tease when I get out the camera “are you going to blog about this”… ?  But of course! 😉

Now, I am going to give you a gift {if your lucky number is drawn} I timed my give~away poorly, so I figure why not pick 2 winners, leave a comment on this Blogiversary post and I will random generate another # on Monday morning, for one of my pumpkins.

Ahhhhhhhh Choooooooo

Yes, that would be me sneezing and stuffy all at the same time, and the pressure in my face ugh….

*Note that is not nasal spray it’s saline spray.  Many know that I had an 18 year plus addition to nasal spray, I have been off “the bottle” for over a year now, but I gotta tell yeah, I am mighty tempted though.

My morning started happy enough, after all it was Monday {one of my favorite days}.  I got up, got ready, took the kids to school, came home and made cake… I mean it doesn’t get any better than that right??  We had our MOMents event scheduled for later in the evening and I was making our birthday cake… I have this great Giant cupcake pan that uses a regular size cake mix to make a cute cupcake, mind you I have used this pan before, so I didn’t think any problems should arise…. Cake 1 {as in ONE}

Yep it’s RAW {as in uncooked in the center} for fear of the top over cooking apparently I didn’t leave it in long enough for the bottom to fully cook…. UGH

Cake 2 {as in baking a second cake}

Oh yeah that’s the SECOND cake whipped frosting and warm weather make for a runny mess. I was ready to CRY I tell ya, then about an hour later…

The double DRIP, are you kidding me???  I give up… I moved this little “cutie” near my open window hoping the frosting would set, it did… I then scrapped the drips {note to self that side will be the back}…. The final product…

Not to shabby…. I managed to get it to Emilie’s intact, it did tip once on the drive over, I then took hold of the cake plate and drove one handed all the way too her house!  Talk about a mess!  Everyone said it was yummy, I had some and I thought it was yummy….

{Funky Funks}

Where has she been??  Why hasn’t she posted??… Well, I have been in sort of a funk if you will… You could call it “bloggers block” but it’s really more like the blues… There are many projects I would like to work on, but don’t want to spend the funds to do so, especially after seeing the receipt to fill up my car, $102.00!  Yikes…. But that kind of stuff doesn’t bring me down, it’s the realization that in two weeks my boys {all 4 of them} will be starting school.  I know some of you will not be able to relate to what I am about to write, but… I get this way at the end of every summer.  Only this summer it’s worse…. I have NEVER not had a little person home with me.  In the 15 years I have had my babies, one of them has always been here, meaning when one little monkey was ready to start kindergarten I would still have another little monkey here.  Not this year, my very last baby is heading to kindergarten.  This REALLY grieves me terribly, it’s not that I don’t have a million things to do and he will only be half day, it’s the thought of him going to school.  I enjoy my boys so much and summers are never long enough.  I love the days the car never leaves the driveway and they stay in their cool summer jammies all day.  We play, read, snack, and enjoy each other.  No schedules to keep and hectic homework/dinner/sports filled evenings.  Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh even typing about it makes me blue….

Ok enough of that on to something more happy… Today in the mail, I got Romantic Homes magazine from my Secret Sister,  our MOMents group  is having our Secret Sister event…. Boy is that fun, we fill out these great questionnaires and draw a name, then we buy little goodies and send little notes to our secret sister for about 6 weeks, then we reveal who had us!  It’s so much fun, and I have to tell you the timing of who ever drew me was perfect.  My magazine will bring great happiness to my funk today!  Thank you Secret Sister!

The Law Of The Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.

We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!

The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, “Why did you just do that?

This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!”

This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks.

They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.

As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you.

Don’t take it personally.

Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.

Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so…..

“Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don’t.”

This was an email sent to me, and I LOVED the logic to it, and thought I’d share!

Beloved Becky

Purpose

Never doubt your purpose in life,
God created you to bring forth light.
You have blessed the lives of many,
Your heart and compassion, unlike that of any.
Quick and responsive with wisdom from above,
Always surrounded with His Holy love.
Being the vessel He chose to use,
With strength and obedience you didn’t refuse.
You’re stronger than you know,
With the Lord in control you continue to grow.
He created you with purpose and reason
And will remain by your side through every season.
                                                             Jenny Gilley

I will give you the short version of the story… Basically Becky, my sister has been through one challenging year to say the very least.  Life has took some pretty difficult turns for her, I know at times she has doubted her strength, and oddly the Lord has chosen not once but TWICE to use her to save the lives of “His children”… I still don’t think she grasps, how even though she feels weak through HIM she is STRONG.  After her heroic CPR efforts yesterday, I was impressed by the Lord with this poem for her.

Prayer and Pipes

The Bible says ask and ye shall receive….  After 4 years of dealing with plumbing that was beyond horrible, meaning we had Orangeburg pipes, what’s that you ask???  It is tar paper rolled ten layers thick and then dipped in tar.  Is it just me or is that a stupid way to make a sewage pipe?  Needless to say it was used quite often in the 60’s and 70’s to attach sewer pipes from homes to the city.  Our house being built in the early 60’s had Orangeburg used.  We have experienced so many back ups and late night plumber calls, each a minimum of $200.00 dollars, in fact to give you an idea of how many times we call, Mr. Rooter,  “our guy” comes out and says things like, “did you miss me” and on Tuesday when I had to call again… He said, as I opened the door “I’m home.”  Each time they come {several times a year} we are told “you need to replace this line, your pipes are crushed and after 11 feet you don’t even have bottoms to the pipes” {I guess I should be thankful the paper pipes have lasted 46 years}… But I can honestly tell you I didn’t have the 6 to 10 THOUSAND yes thousand dollars we were quoted to run a new line!  After much prayer and tears, my Papa and husband {who mind you works 14 hour days} decide that each morning at 5:30 am they will go out and dig a couples hours and replace the line ourselves! UGHHHHHHHHHH.  Even I was out digging starting Tuesday morning….

When on Wednesday I get a phone call from my cousin, Lyndel and she asks, “what have you been up too” {loaded question}, I tell her about all that has transpired.  After we got off the phone my cell chimes letting me know I have a text message… Lyndel… Telling me to stop digging that her husband {a hard working, amazing guy} Jose jose-sm.jpg is going to be at our house tomorrow and he and his building crew will install all NEW sewer line on Friday morning, that they have EVERYTHING in their shop and it will NOT cost us a DIME!  I am not joking… She said Jose wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing we were doing all that digging when he has ALL of the equipment and they do this kind of thing ALL the time.  Jose went even as far as to say it would only take them 4 hours!  WHAT… We were seriously projecting to have this project complete at the end of May or middle of June.  I called Spike at work and said, “God is Good”… told him about my phone conversation with Lyndel, and we rejoiced together.  God used Lyndel and Jose in a MIGHTY way to help our family, and we are so GRATEFUL.  What a BLESSING.  The crew came at 10:30 am on Friday morning with this:

rescue-sm.jpg

Drove it in the yard and began to work.  roots-sm.jpg  Unearthing pipes this photo shows tree roots that obviously could go straight through PAPER pipes.  I mean look at that, less than a 1/4 of the pipe was empty!  It’s no wonder we could flush at all!  trencher-sm.jpg Here is the trencher after about 10 minutes of digging.

Do you know how that would have took to dig by shovel??  crew-sm.jpg

Here is part of the AMAZING and talented crew, and all of the trenches dug.  I gotta tell ya it was hard to hold back tears, we are so BLESSED.  So this is the story of how a sewer line is one of the BEST gifts I have ever received!  Thank You… Jose {and Lyndel}
